HISTORY OF THE DAVISTOWN RSL SUB BRANCH.

The story from the beginning: –

December 23rd 1949 a group of ex-servicemen had an inaugural meeting held in the progress hall at Davistown on Sunday to discuss preliminary details for the forming of a sub-Branch of the Returned Sailor’s Soldier’s Airmen’s Imperial League of Australia (RSS&AILA).
Messrs D.A. Prentice and J. Lawn, of Gosford attended and advised on the procedure.
The sub-Branch will be started in January. All details of the meeting will be advertised in the Gosford Times.

February 28th, 1950, Davistown sub-Branch of the RSS&AILA enrolled four new members at their last meeting which brings the membership to twenty (20). The sub-Branch which covers Davistown, Saratoga, Kincumber, Empire Bay, and Broadwater, are running functions to build its own Club Room and to assist distressed members. The social committee is planning an ANZAC smoko followed by an EASTER carnival on the Davistown waterfront. Office – Bearers of the sub-Branch are President, Mr Chas Mills, Hon. Secretary Mr Fred Lawrence, Hon. Treasurer Mr Jack Marsh who is also the sub-Branch Publicity Officer.

August 1st, 1950, Gosford Times advertised Davistown RSLs First Annual Dinner.
Davistown RSL sub-Branch will hold its first official dinner at “Glenorie”, Davistown on Friday night (10th).
The guest of honour will be Mr N. Bray, NSW State Councillor.
For the convenience of the district returned servicemen who wish to attend, a bus will leave Gosford, at 7:30 pm, and will return to Gosford at the conclusion of the evening.
The president of the sub-Branch is Mr C.B. Forsyth, the Secretary Mr F. Lawrence, and the Treasurer Mr J. Marsh.

August 15th, 1950, Gosford Times advise Davistown RSL Charter.
Davistown sub-Branch of the RSS&AILA received its Charter at a presentation dinner at Davistown Hall on Friday.
The Charter was presented by NSW State Councillor Mr Norman Bray, of Newcastle.
The Secretary of the State Council Mr R. Webb also attended.
The President of Davistown sub-Branch, Mr C.B. Forsyth said it was appropriate that the sub-Branch should be opened on the 36th Anniversary of the RSS&AILA.

December 19th, 1950, Gosford Times advise: –

Davistown RSL Mr L J Morrison was elected President of Davistown sub-Branch of the RSS&AILA at its annual meeting last Thursday (December 14th, 1950).

Mr G Wilkinson was elected Vice- President, Mr F Lawrence sub-Branch secretary and Mr J Marsh Treasurer.

The sub-Branch decided to continue to help the needy in the territory.

The next monthly meeting will be at 8pm on January 25th at the Davistown Hall.

March 2nd, 1951, Gosford Times advises: –

Subbranch objective is a wireless.

Davistown RSS&AILA sub-Branch and “Uncle Bill” have arranged a dance on Thursday March 12th to raise Funds. The Davistown – bus proprietor has arranged a bus to take Saratoga patrons home after the dance. The association desires to thank the RSL subBbranch for the past help and “Uncle Bill” for his constant efforts.

The Association also extends its thanks to those who have already made donations for the wireless.

October 12th, 1951, Times advise: –

Kincumber Hall in aid of RSL Davistown sub-Branch Building fund.

Come along and make it a good night 3-piece orchestra.

J C Marsh Hon Secretary Building Fund.

Sub-Branch address was Paringa Ave Davistown

Davistown RSL Ladies Auxiliary was started December 7th 1955 by Mr Stan Hutton and Mr Fred Lawrence.
